Biography and Bibliography of Dominique Joseph Garat (1749-1833)
Dominique Joseph Garat was born in Bayonne September 8, 1749. Member of the Bar of Bordeaux, he came to Paris early age and began a literary career in 1778, In Praise of Michael's Hospital, Chancellor of France. He won the prize of eloquence of the French Academy in 1779 with his praise of Suger, abbot of Saint Denis, then the price of the French Academy in 1781 with the praise of Charles Sainte Maure, duc de Montausier and that of 1784 with the Praise of Bernard de Fontenelle.
